Versions
JAMS is distributed as a platform-independent, ready-to-run bundle from the latest GitHub release, or built from source with a single Maven command. See Downloads for both options.
Installation guidance is available in the JAMS Installation documentation.
Features
The bundle includes:
- JAMS runtime system containing core operational components
- Modelling libraries with 200+ components for:
- Simulating hydrological and environmental phenomena
- Data analysis, input/output, and visualization functions
- Graphical user interfaces for:
- Model development, configuration, and execution (JAMS Launcher and JAMS Builder)
- Data exploration and visualization (JAMS Data Explorer) with 3D mapping via NASA World Wind
- OPTAS toolbox for model calibration through parameter optimization, sensitivity, and uncertainty analysis
Demo Models
Three demonstration models showcase JAMS functionality:
- USGS Thornthwaite model — a simplified monthly water-balance simulation [1]
- J2K (j2k_gehlberg) — a fully distributed hydrological process model, applied to the Wilde Gera catchment [2]
- J2K (j2k_dudh_koshi) — the same model family applied to the Dudh Kosi River basin in the Himalayan region of Nepal [3]
Models reside in the installation’s “data” subdirectory. To execute:
- Launch JAMS Builder; select “File” → “Load Model…”
- Navigate to “data/j2k_gehlberg”, “data/j2k_dudh_koshi” or “data/thornthwaite” folder
- Open “j2k_gehlberg.jam”, “j2k_dudh_koshi.jam” or “thornthwaite.jam”
- Select “Model” → “Run Model” (or the
toolbar button) to begin simulation
